You need to submit an offer of employment from your prospective Canadian employer via the IMP Employer Portal.

For this job offer to be accepted into the IMP, it needs to meet a few criteria:

• The job or temporary foreign worker must meet the requirements for LMIA-exemption.
• The employer must pay the $230 compliance fee.
• The employer must submit an official job offer to the IMP Employer Portal if needed.

However, if the temporary foreign worker has a Canada open work permit, the employer won’t have to pay the compliance fee or submit the official job offer.

If you have met all of the above requirements, it’s time to apply for a work permit. In this case, you will need a Temporary Foreign Work Permit. You need to submit the number of your offer of employment to get this. If you’re seen as eligible to live and work in Canada, you will receive a letter of introduction and a work permit from a Canadian border officer. If you already live and apply from within Canada, you’ll obtain a new work permit.

Your work permit alone won’t allow you to enter Canada. If you’re coming to work in Canada from another country, you’ll get a Visitor’s or Travel Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETa).

You’ll also submit your primary Visa documents like a medical certificate and a police certificate showing a successful background check.

If your application is a success and you’ve been issued your work permit and travel visa, it’s time to get everything ready to live and work in Canada.
